About Whisker
City
Whisker City rescues and rehabilitates
abused, neglected and abandoned felines and places them in
loving homes.
Whisker City
operates the only mobile adoption center in Washington State,
Whiskers On Wheels, The WOW Bus. Wow travels
to area Pet Supply stores 5 days a week with cats and kittens
ready for adoption. Thousands of felines have been saved and
re-homed since 1992.
Cats and kittens find their way to Whisker
City because of human travail like sudden unemployment, homelessness,
disease, death, aging, disability, and mental illness. Illegal
activity causing imprisonment and drug and alcohol rehab also
cause pets to be abandoned. Whisker City accepts cases from mild
neglect to severe abuse and provides medical treatment
and lifelong care.
Whisker City is unique in that the organization
focuses solely on the needs of the feline. 100% of the funds
raised are used for care and shelter and finding forever homes.
No money is used for education, lobbying or advertising. Currently
2 full time employees, 1 part time employee, occasional day labor
and volunteers manage the entire operation.
Whisker City provides
overflow support for any animal shelter upon request. To date,
the organization has assisting 17
shelters statewide by accepting cats and kittens.
Whisker
City distributes surplus supplies to
feral cat colonies and individual rescuers and boutique shelters.
They also assist the general public in the trapping and altering
of feral cats and kittens.
Whisker City accepts felines from
the Angeline House,
Noel House, First Avenue Service Center and Saint Martin DePoor
and Snohomish County Battered Women’s Shelter for
homeless & battered people in crisis. In some cases the cats
are returned to the original owner when permanent housing is
found.
All cats and kittens are provided health care and
surgical alteration by Northgate Veterinary Clinic.
They work in cooperation with the Feral Cat Spay Neuter project
for alteration, vaccinations and FIV testing. In March all cats
and kittens will be micro chipped.
Whisker City has received grants
from : Maddie’s
Fund, PetCo, PetSmart, Walmart and Key Bank. The bulk
of the expenses are paid by private donors and the efforts of
volunteers. The volunteers organize the following fundraising
activities: Yard Sales, Holiday Craft Sales, The Turkey Bowl,
